Day 290: July 15, 2025 – Hubbard Glacier, Wrangell St. Elias National Park, Alaska, USA
Sometimes nature’s beauty is just overwhelming. Today was that kind of day.
We lingered on deck for hours, breathing in the beauty of Alaska’s Hubbard Glacier, watching the sun and clouds cast shadows and light, alert for the rumble of calving.
You hear the thunder first, then a giant splash as chunks of ice break off into the water, a process known as calving.
At 600 feet tall, 7 miles wide and flowing 75 miles into the sea, Hubbard is North America’s longest tidewater glacier.
To keep us warm on a blustery morning, crew members delivered hot chocolate.
