Farewell To My Favorite State

Days 277 to 301: July 4-26, 2025 – Alaska, USA

I lived in Juneau for several years (2015-2016) and Alaska very quickly became my favorite state. I’ve now been to all US states and Canadian provinces, and Alaska is still my #1. Now, as we wind our way around its coastline, every port reminds me of why it’s my favorite. Miles of coastline. Snow-capped mountains and glaciers. The midnight sun. Brilliant fireweed. Eagles and seagulls. Otters and sea lions. I had previously seen all three flavors of Alaska bears (black, brown, and polar) so I didn’t try to do any bear excursions on this trip, but they have those too.

Waving good-bye to my favorite state as we move on to Japan.

    1. Agreed!

  2. Alaska is one of only a few states I’ve never been in, but your photos showed me how beautiful it is along its west coast. Thank you so much for the posts. Wishing you smooth sailing to Japan!
