Day 455: December 28, 2025 – Moorea, French Polynesia
I’m not much of a snorkeler, so I’ve been missing out on all the magnificent marine life that many of my snorkeling shipmates have been enjoying. But on today’s boat tour around Moorea, I didn’t have to get in the water to see it; the wildlife came to us.
We watched a whole pod of spinner dolphins repeatedly dive and resurface. The name “spinner” is due to their acrobatic displays (although they were not spinning today).

Huge Green Sea Turtles could be seen swimming near the surface. They have only recently been removed from the endangered list.

Our boat guide served us fresh mango and pineapple, then told us throwing the remnants in the water would attract the vibrant fish swimming around us. That’s me feeding butterflyfish from the boat.

Ben, who organized this tour, with his mom Proletta. At 99, she is our eldest resident on the Odyssey. She ventures out on more excursions than many of our younger residents, and navigates getting in and out of tender boats like a pro.

I’ve been following your posts for sometime now, but rarely comment because I have trouble signing into the account. I want you to know how much I love seeing your photos. Wonderful! Thank you for sharing them. I wasn’t much of a snorkeler until I got one of the full face masks now I love it! If things work out, we hope to spend some time on the Odyssey in the future. Looking forward to meeting you.
Hi Janet, happy to hear you are enjoying the blog. And looking forward to meeting you in person as well.
So many wonderful creatures in a single day!

Love all your photos, but this set especially!
Thanks Ron. It’s always interesting to me which posts appeal to which of my readers.
Breathtaking! I especially love your close-up portrait of the sea turtle.
He was one handsome creature.
I highly recommend that you take the plunge and see for yourself, the magnificent underwater sea life.
I was in those waters and dove all around Bora Bora. and it is an otherworldly experience to have these vibrant fish swim with you. I’ve never forgotten the thrill!
I’ve been seeing the go-pro videos from the snorkelers in our group and it really does look other-worldly.
