Guggenheim Bilbao

Days 3-4: October 7-8, 2024 – Bilbao, Spain

We had two days in the charming town of Bilbao, and the highlight for me was the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum. It is one of four Guggenheim museums, the others being in New York, Venice, and Abu Dhabi.

My eye is always drawn to color, and the Guggenheim had plenty of it.

This was a fascinating light art installation (not a painting).

Basia, yesterday I threw myself into bed during the day after a hard workout at the gym and cozied up. Then I thought about you – since the ship is your home, if you want to cozy up that’s where you have to do it. Is it easy to have quiet time there if you want it?

    1. Hi Tereska, yes my cabin is my quiet time refuge. I actually like my cabin a lot, it’s very cozy, and when I don’t want to be around people anymore, that’s where I head. There are also a few public spaces, like the observatory, that have very few people in them during the day, that are also suitable if I want some quiet time. So far it has worked out well for me.

Bilbao is on my list. But the Koons stuff — which we initially saw at the fabulous Broad in LA — or imitations of it, is everywhere. I’m over it.

    1. You’re an art snob, Ron. 🙂

      Ron,
I have not met you, but I do know that you have BPT. CT. and WHHS roots. I am B’s sister. I couldn’t agree with you more about Koons. There are many things about Modern Art and all its sub classifications that I like. Houston, where I live, has excellent public and private collections of MA. But Jeff Koons just always irritates me. I think I’ve been over it for while, but I did not have the term to describe it. I am going to use your term from now on.

  6. Do you pick your off the boat excursions or are they part of the trip ?

    1. I usually do my own excursions. I like to just take my camera and go walking or take public transport. I plan on doing the cruise-sponsored excursions only when I have to, like when a place is hard to get to or I don’t want to risk missing it.

Well, the Guggenheim never disappoints that’s for sure.

    1. You would totally appreciate it, Donna.
