3 Years Around the World
Last week I posted a list of countries we would be visiting on this voyage. Prior to this journey, I’ve been to 51 countries. I should be able to more than double my list, adding another 53 countries. Seems like a lot of countries, but it will still be just a little more than half of the 197 countries out there. So many countries, so little time. I may have to stay on the ship for another circumnavigation to add the rest!

What an amazing trip you have to come! I too would appreciate the editable copy of your chart if you are happy to share. We have a long way to go but do quite a few countries already visited.

Where do places like Reunion (France) or the Azores (Portugal) fit in? Reunion is definitely not France, and the Azores feels very far from Portugal…
Unfortunately, neither of them count as an official country. Reunion is considered a region of France, and Azores an autonomous region of Portugal. I was a little disappointed to find out that 26 of the places we were going to were not actually countries (for example Bermuda, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, and so many others). Even Antarctica did not make the country list, since it’s a continent, not a country. One of these days, during one of our sea days, I’m planning on creating a similar list of locations that are not countries.
Territories and possessions? Places like Reunion need a special category. It couldn’t be more different geologically but it has a French charm and history to it that made me look forward to visiting again. Same with Ponta Delgada. Tahiti and French Polynesia is a “collectivity” of France: 120 islands in the Pacific and they need to be on the list somewhere! 😁😁😁
