Faces of the World: Spain 2

Day 17: October 19, 2024 – Ceuta, Spain

Exploring the small port town of Ceuta, I ended up hiking up a hill way higher than I had planned for, and I was starting to wonder whether I brought enough water with me. Making my way down I noticed a crowd of teens gathered around a small tent set up with water, juice, and fruit. One of the girls (the one in the foreground in the photo below) approached me and invited me to help myself to anything at their refreshment table! It was a very welcome offer, and we chatted a bit. Turns out they were from a youth center and were in the middle of a group activity. I asked if I could take their photo, then they asked for a photo with me. They were very intrigued when I told them I was cruising around the world. “How can we get on that ship?” they asked.

When I started doing the Faces of the World Gallery, my goal was to select one person (or one group) from each country, and I had already featured the construction workers from Spain. But these friendly faces and their curiosity made my day, so I have to break my rule. How could I not add them to the Faces Gallery?

Next stop: Gibraltar

Love that you meet all these people and touch their lives in ways you probably never thought about.

    1. Moments like these, however brief, have been one of the sweetest things about this journey.
