Palmetum Gardens

This was my second visit to Tenerife, Canary Islands; on my first visit I made the rounds of all the major tourist attractions. So this time I decided to spend the day in the Palmetum Botanical Garden in Santa Cruz. The garden is the result of an amazing project that transformed a rubbish dump—a 40-meter-high mountain of waste—into a lush botanical area specializing in palms from around the world. I spent a peaceful day listening to the trill of African Blue Tits, Canaries and Chiffchaffs, and soaking in the beauty of the gardens.
