Day 61: December 2, 2024 – Tortola, British Virgin Islands
A few years ago, when I was on a Seabourn cruise where all alcohol was included, I methodically tried out dozens of drinks to see if any would appeal to me. (I wasn’t much of a drinker back then. Though I think this cruise has turned me into one.) The Painkiller was by far my #1 choice. In the U.S. they were hard to come by; few bartenders had heard of them. The ingredients include Pusser’s Rum, coconut cream, orange juice and pineapple juice. It turns out that the Painkiller was the creation of the Pusser’s Rum Co. which is based in the British Virgin Islands. Which would explain why here in BVI, Painkillers were on every bar menu.
Angela and I popped into a Pusser’s Rum bar in Tortola, where Painkillers are rated according to strength. This was day drinkin’ so I started with the lowest. It did not disappoint!
Afterwards, we stopped by a liquor store to stock up on some Pusser’s for the road. The sales person gave me a tasting of something called Coconut Rum Cream, and I was an instant convert. So that’s what is sitting in my cabin right now.
I passed on the rums called “Panty Dropper” and “Boxer Remover.”
