Zipping It

Day 73: December 14, 2024 – Colón, Panama

At the Colón port in Panama, 14 of us adrenaline junkies gathered for some zip lining fun. This is my 5th time zipping (twice in Alaska, and twice in Costa Rica) and each one has been a little bit different.

The zippers: Joe W, Karen, Shelly, Anita, Wade, Bev, Angela L, Shirene, Eli, Doris, Don, Donna J, Basia, Janice S.

This was one where you zip from one platform to another, as opposed to just doing one long zip from top to bottom, like I did in Alaska. It required a bit more skill and strength. On one of the segments, my line was going so fast, they had to emergency brake me, which ended with a hard landing on the platform. An air bag would have been very helpful! After that, I was worried about going too fast again, so I overcompensated by braking too much (pushing down on the bottom line with one hand slows you down), and ended up stopping it completely, leaving myself hanging on the line before reaching the next platform. One of the guides had to reel me in.

By the time we got to this platform, which required climbing up a ladder, I was definitely feeling my age! But the whole thing was a blast. Looking forward to my 6th one, whichever country that might be in.

Wow. I had no idea there was so much finesse involved in this.

    1. Yeah, it used to be they just strap you in, and you fly down. These days, they’ve gotten a lot fancier.

Good for you! I have zipped four time, in three countries – Costa Rica (2), Panama, Granada. Please give our best wishes to Janice, Joe W. and the Island Princess gang!

Love that picture of you over the water… but I seem to remember someone not so crazy about boating here in Texas and that looks scarier than a boat ride.

Wow! In the first place I’m glad you can be wearing shorts… While I’m in AZ with pants and a jacket… At least in the morning… Lol
And … Ahhh the learning curves of zipping… Glad you didn’t get hurt .. bet it was hysterical being stuck in the middle though…. Like… Ummm ..hey I need a little help here… Lolol

      1. It WAS pretty funny, at least after he managed to rescue me.

    2. Yes indeed! I kept my eyes up during that whole stretch!

There is a great station to station zip line on the big island, Hawaii. Lots of fun!

    1. I’ll have to check it out next time I’m there.
