It’s not easy being a vegetarian in this city. Beef is king in Argentina. There are a few vegetarian eateries but most restaurants cater to carnivores, with barbeque (asado) being not just a popular dish, but an event. So this vegetarian was delighted to stumble onto this fabulous dish at Cafe Proa, a combination art gallery/cafe in the artsy Caminito district of Buenos Aires. This gorgeous presentation consisted of grilled seasonal vegetables (potatoes, eggplant, squash, zucchini, tomato), vinaigrette eggplant dip, carrot mayonnaise cream, olives and baby potatoes, semi-hard cheeses, fugazza with extra virgin olive and bagel bread.

And since at the moment Argentina is one of the most inexpensive countries in the world to visit, the whole shebang cost only $11, lemonade and wine included.
