The Ricardo Brennand Institute in Brazil was voted by TripAdvisor one of the best museums in South America. With its vast collection of art and historical items—60,000 of them—it is an art and history lover’s paradise. I spent a day here browsing its galleries and grounds.

The Riding Crop, and Dom Quixote

An entire roomful of wax sculptures portrays the trial of influential politician Nicholas Fouquet for embezzlement. The life-like statues illustrate life in seventeenth century French society

Capybaras (largest living rodents) wandered around the museum grounds.
