Day 16: October 18, 2024 – Tangier, Morocco
A couple hours south of Tangier is the picturesque city of Chefchaouen, also known as Blue City. Walls, doorways and windows in homes and shops are painted every shade of blue: sky blue, baby blue, aqua, deep blue, vivid blue. It’s unclear how the tradition started. One theory says it started with Jewish immigrants, because it reminded them of the sky and the presence of God. Another is that the blue repels mosquitos and prevents malaria. A third says it was easier on the eye than the traditional cooling white of many Moroccan homes.

Then this post is dedicated to you, Shannon…
What a lovely little town. And you look amazing for the trip you’ve had!
I just love this little place ..
Thanks Debbie. I love colorful places like these.
Love everything about architecture in this part of the word ( Spain, Portg. and Northern Africa. Love the one of you in the doorway. Did you coordinate your outfit with the environment?
Funny thing is, I didn’t. After we set off I noticed that several people had worn shades of blue and I was wishing I had. But then when I looked at the doorway pic, it does look like I had coordinated!
Colorful pictures!
