Brazil Coast

Days 148-154: February 24-March 2, 2025, Brazil

Brazil has a 4,500 mile coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. This week we meandered along the coast, making stops at several ports including Santos, Paraty, and Ilha Grande.

Paraty was a picturesque little town, with cobbled streets and colorful doors and windows.

Lots of small local boats lined the Paraty dock.

Paraty and Ilha Grande were small enough that they didn’t have the kind of dock required for our ship, so we had to anchor at sea and use tender boats from our ship to shore. In previous ports, tender rides have been mostly short and uneventful. But on this stretch, we had a perfect tendering storm — choppy seas that made many people seasick, some mechanical issues, and a seemingly disorganized docking system that led to long wait times in the tender.

Paraty is beautiful.. looks like my kind of place. Love the colors! And 4500 miles of shoreline!!! Whoa!!!
So many different kind of finches. I’m in AZ and love our goldfinches!!! Sorry to hear about the Rough Ride.. but it looks like it was worth it.
    Loving the adventure!!!!

  2. What a beautiful way to experience Brazil’s coast, even if the tendering wasn’t the smoothest! The colorful doors in Paraty really caught my eye – they give the town so much character. Did you have any trouble capturing the birds with all the motion on the water?

Is anyone on Odyssey looking at Amazon River excursions now that it was removed from this South American segment as they had done for Antarctica? I was really hoping you were going as I would love to see your bird and wildlife fotos from the Amazon. I’m assuming there must be some birds there for your Life List.

    1. Dear “Shannon S” (aka Sharon, reelyred, and Mary Ryder): I’ve already blocked you twice. If you really want to post under fake names and emails, you might want to change your IP address. It’s very easy to track down. Or at least, change your writing style to make your anti-VVR axe-grinding less obvious.

am I remembering correctly, you had a door picture series in India?

    1. You are remembering correctly indeed! I seem to be drawn to interesting doors and windows.
