Day 4 of volunteering at Galapagos National Park had us counting iguanas, part of a census to assess their numbers on the island. Lots of places have terrestrial iguanas, but marine iguanas are found only in Galapagos. They are the only lizards that lives in the ocean

The collective noun for a group of iguanas is a “mess.” This photo I took a couple days later on Santa Cruz island shows why. They pile on top of each other and intertwine; it’s hard to tell where one ends and another begins.
