Oddly enough, it’s not easy to find turkey in Turkey. Chicken, lamb, even burgers – but no turkey on the menu. And I really really wanted to eat turkey on Turkey Day in Turkey. Because, when will I ever be in Turkey on Thanksgiving Day again?
Someone in our group (thanks Marc!) finally managed to track down an American hotel chain that was offering a Thanksgiving dinner buffet. A handful of us who were still in Istanbul decided to treat ourselves to a night out. And it was definitely a treat. In addition to turkey, the buffet had at least 100 other dishes, including dozens of deserts. Here are some highlights from our Turkey Day in Turkey.
Somewhere out there, hell froze over, because I found a vodka drink that I didn’t hate. In fact, I had two of them: pumpkin vodka.

Pumpkin vodka! Love it, definitely something I would try
So glad a fantastic spread for Turkey Day was found and enjoyed!
Nice spread on the table and lovely Band of Merry Women at the table. I am not surprised about the vodka and hell freezing over. I am surprised about you searching for a animal-based dinner. I thought that was where you were going with the HFO. The vodka must have been imported. Hell would freeze over if it were a Made- in -Turkey product. Maybe, it was Russian. Very happy to see the group gathering in a festive setting.
I make an exception for Thanksgiving. 🙂
Very awesome!! Pumpkin Vodka???
I know! Who would have thought! But it works…
