When I think of penguins, I picture them chilling on an iceberg somewhere in Antarctica. I don’t picture them sunbathing at the equator. But here they are! The Galapagos Islands straddle the equator, and the Galapagos Penguin is found on two of the islands: Isabela and Bartolomé. It’s the only penguin found in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s always a good day when I see my favorite bird!
Unlike the Antarctic penguins whose rapid skimming on the water made them difficult to photograph, these little guys swam placidly around our boat.

I love love penguins!!! I love to watch them !
They are delightful, aren’t they.
They are adorable, and all wonderful photos!
They are such little cuties.
Is that your favorite bird? The penguin is the mascot of the grade school on the next block from us!
It is my favorite bird, especially after seeing them by the hundreds on Falkland Islands. I was trying to remember – did Harding have a mascot?
I don’t remember Harding having a mascot.
Weren’t we known as the Presidents/Presidettes in Harding? Can’t quite remember if/how that was represented as a mascot. Teapot would have been funny.
Oh yeah, the Presidettes were one of the cheerleading (baton twirling?) teams. A teapot mascot would have been hilarious, and a perfect way to honor that president!
A day among your favorite birds is a day to be celebrated!
Very true!
Glorious!!!
