Faces of the World: Bulgaria

I was strolling along Vitosha Boulevard, Sofia’s popular street lined with shops, bars, and restaurants. A spiffed-up man in a suit and bow tie was standing off to one side, smoking a cigarette and holding flowers and a bottle of champagne. He seemed out of place on this busy street filled with shoppers and I thought he would make an interesting character for my Faces of the World series. I was trying to figure out how to ask him for a photo, when a woman in bridal gear walked up, followed by a slew of friends & family. Turns out they were about to go into the wedding officiant’s hall for their marriage ceremony. (The name on the building translates to Ritual Hall). They graciously agreed to have their photo taken, and now represent Bulgaria in my Faces of the World series!

I like the mini skirt and fur jacket combo and how the pink jacket of the little girl is picked up in th exact shade of pink of the flower wrapping

    1. Yes, the mini skirt and the fur jacket were an interesting combination!

  2. Curious how you approach subjects to ask for pic. Do they know they are joining your Faces of the World club? Do you document their names?

      Me too. Excellent question!

    2. Usually, I just point to my camera and say, “photo ok?” That seems to be universally understood. I would have loved to get their names but didn’t want to hold them up any further. I haven’t told anyone they are in the series, but would do so (and point them to my blog) if language wasn’t a barrier and it was more than just an ephemeral moment.
