Faces of the World: Canary Islands

On the streets of Tenerife (the most populous of the Canary Islands), tourists outnumber the locals. Fewer than 1 million people live on this island; over 5 million tourists visit each year. I was tempted to use a tourist face to represent the islands. But I didn’t want to be disrespectful to the people who actually live here!

Fortunately, there was Adriana, who staffs the reception desk at Sol Arona Tenerife, the hotel we are staying in.

This delightful woman was unfailingly pleasant and helpful while trying to straighten out a complex booking situation for our group. She can put a smile on the crankiest tourist face. And her English is much better than my Spanish!
