Yerba mate is a popular caffeine-rich herbal drink in Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil. It’s made of the dried leaves of an evergreen bush, steeped in water. Throughout this area, I frequently saw people walk around with little thermoses and cups with metal straws. This man sat down next to me on a park bench in Montevideo, Uruguay for his morning sip, and graciously agreed to have his photo taken.
