Farm Glamping

My lodging this week is a glamping-style tent on a farm about an hour outside of Quito. The AirBnB hosts are organic farmers, food activists, and academics, with a focus on agriculture sustainability, and the farm is a model for their work. Lots of beautiful green space, fresh fruit and vegetables, colorful flowers, and dozens of chickens.

I love feeling like I’m sleeping outdoors in this glamping tent, without the discomfort of camping. A wood-burning stove makes it extra cozy.

A separate tent is used for the kitchen/living area.

The bedroom tent doesn’t have electricity, whereas this tent does (as well as good WiFi) so I spend most of my time here, in front of the chicken coop!

Breakfast ingredients, most collected from the farm itself, are delivered to the kitchen tent each morning. I especially get a kick out of the cute little basket of omelette ingredients (eggs, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic, celery) all fresh from the farm, and have been making myself tasty omelettes each day.

And this is where the eggs come from. The only down side to farm living is it gets noisy. It feels very serene — if you can ignore the chickens cackling, roosters crowing, cows mooing, and dogs barking!

From the farm there is a fabulous view of the snow-covered Cotopaxi, an active volcano in the Andes. Its last eruption was in 2016.

I love farm animal sounds. When I used to take my mom for a drive around Vermont and we passed farms she would begin to sing – and that’s saying a lot because she never sang in the house.

    1. I didn’t know that about your mother!

There is only two types of camping : glamping or back pain. It’s one or the other.

    1. No back pain from this bed! It was quite comfortable, and definitely more comfy than my camping pad.

I love sleeping outdoors. Growing up, my Dad built a screened-in porch off our garage and we’d sleep there in the summer. Now I just love being in a tent. We love camping in Anza-Borrego. Did you ever go there during your time in SoCal?

    1. I’ve been to Anza-Borrego, but I never camped there. It looked live a lovely place to camp though.

Dare I ask what the bathroom accommodations are?

    1. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the bathroom. It was actually quite nice. It was a separate structure, a few feet away from the living area tent, and had a shower, flushing toilet, and sink. The only inconvenience was that you had to step outside your tent to use it, so if you’re someone who gets up during the night to use the bathroom, it might be a bit of a problem.

Oh I can be there in a heart beat!!!!! This is so cool !!! How do you find these places????????? I love everthing about it! The omelet station for you is really cool. Any other visitors?

    1. They have two tents, and the kitchen tent is shared space. But so far I have been the only one here, so I have the place to myself.
