In contrast to the black volcanic soil of the island, most buildings in Lanzarote Island are white, with sparse blue or green trim. White reflects the sun’s rays and keeps the interior cooler.
Of course, I have to throw a bird in there somewhere! I love his mohawk.
Would love to know the origin of the “sandstone-like” rock formations. Cool looking among the lava.
And the Hoopoe! Isn’t that a grand and glorious bird!
Me too. Haven’t had time to research it yet. When I first saw it I thought it was sand, until I stepped on it and realized it was solid.

Another wonderful set of photos. I had not thought about the volcanic origins of the Canaries, but I love the black lava rock and beaches. Also the Hoopoe, of course.

Mary – I try to channel you every time I climb a mountain! Wish you were here climbing with me (even though I couldn’t keep up with you…)
