Days 47-48: November 18-19, 2024 – Fort-De-France, Martinique
Martinique, an overseas region of France, came with a safety warning about civil unrest. Local authorities reported that the country has faced social and economic disturbances in recent months, and advised caution when navigating the island. I was a little hesitant to walk around (especially with camera in hand), but all was calm and I didn’t see any problems.

This fellow walking down the street pointed to my camera, then to himself, so I obliged, and made him the face of Martinique.

Walking through a park, this trail of flower petals from the Sea Poison Tree caught my eye. All parts of the tree are poisonous, but the white stamens with pink tips made for a pretty flower trail.

Next stop: Roseau, Dominica

The town looks beautiful!
You are one Brave Lady!! Glad all is well. Cool flowers off that tree.
Why is that particular bird a “lifer” for you?
The spectacled thrush…
For birders, a lifer is a bird we have not seen before. It’s called that because we get to add it to our bird life list, which is a list of all the species we’ve seen in our lifetime.
How many species are currently on your bird life list?
I’m at 954. Only 9,000 more to go…
