Meandering In Morocco

Stepping off the ferry from Spain into Morocco, my first impression of Tangier is “expansive.” Flatness all around. Miles of wide boardwalk. Deep blue sky meets a deeper blue sea. Everything is the color of sand and sea.

I was walking along this promenade, doing my usual clicking, when I see a security guard heading towards me, blowing his whistle. It seems that you’re allowed to take pictures with your phone, but not with a regular camera (which he called a “professional camera”). And I didn’t even have my giant birding lens on — that would have been jail time for sure!

Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, is the most northwestern point of mainland Africa.

  1. Good gosh, Basia. We nearly crossed paths! I was in Tangiers on Sept 21!!! So glad the cruise has launched and your dream begins anew. We are in Porto now. Safe travels!

    1. Oh my gosh, that would have been wild, if we ran into each other on the boardwalk in Tangier! We missed each other by just a few days, bummer. Are you on a cruise also?

I can’t believe you are in Morocco… I was looking on a map.. and thought.. what about the Netherlands, Finland, up in that area.. maybe you have been and I don’t remember. Wherever though, we, are having the best geography and culture lesson thru you !!!

    1. I haven’t been up in that area, except for Iceland. It was supposed to be on our itinerary for this cruise, but got cancelled because of all the delays, I was pretty bummed about that.

Nowt as queer as folks. Must have felt you would be perving on the hordes of people on the beach. 🙂

Did you take the first shot — the one with the palm tree in the middle at the beach? It looks like a painting. Very nice – love the flatness and the blue.

    1. Sure did. I only post my own pics (unless I specifically give credit to someone else). The terrain definitely looked like a painting.

  6. You are at the right place at the right time to see ospreys migrating from the UK and Northern Europe to points south in Africa. So look up occasionally!

    1. Will do! Thanks for the heads up!
