No Dog Walks Alone

In Buenos Aires, dog-walking is serious business. Dogs get walked in packs, with the guy in the first photo below holding the record with 11 dogs by his side.

I was fascinated by how well-behaved the dogs were, and curious as to how he was able to handle that many animals; I figured the dog-pooping would be non-stop. So I followed him for at least 25 minutes (until I realized I was lost!) Not one of the 11 dogs strayed from their leash, jumped on someone or sniffed someone’s crotch. In fact, none of them even stopped for a poop. Maybe they poop first, go for a walk later? Not sure what the secret is here, but American dog owners could learn a thing or two from these Argentinian dog-whisperers.

P.S. Those of you who know I’m very much not a dog-person, I bet you never thought you’d see pictures of 50+ dogs on my blog, eh? πŸ™‚

Did some research. The dog walkers have these dogs for up to 5 hours a day. They get paid per hour. Some of the better walkers take the time to train the dogs. Some dog walkers get together and train them for certain situations they’d encounter on the streets. Some of the articles said that picking up the poop is not their strong suit. Glad you didn’t run into that!

    1. Oh my goodness Elaine, you are a wealth of information! πŸ™‚

Definitely one of the most fascinating things about Buenos Aires. I don’t know how they do it!

There must be a special name for this type of pack of dogs. It’s very funny. The DW don’t look too happy though.

    1. There probably is, let me know if you find out. Yes the dog walkers don’t look so happy. But I probably wouldn’t be either if I spent my day picking up shit.
