Adding to my Sleeping Around series (staying in oddball places around the world) was this lodging in Uyuni, Bolivia. Called the Onkel Inn Wagon Sleepbox, it was an old train car converted into an AirBnb. It was inside the train station itself, so I was a bit worried about noise, but it turns out there is very limited train activity in Uyuni, so it wasn’t a problem. The inside was in much better shape than the outside looks!
The bed pretty much took up the entire room. But it included WiFi and free breakfast at the train station restaurant, and a private bathroom, so that’s always a good deal. I was glad I stayed one night, but probably wouldn’t want to stay much longer than that!
I was also hoping to spend a night in this hotel on the Uyuni Salt Flats, which is completely made of salt. The timing didn’t work out for that one, but I did end up eating lunch there while on tour with our group.
