Hiding From the Birds

Day 579: May 2, 2026 – Bali, Indonesia

On our previous visit to Bali, I had trouble bonding with Bali. This time around, Bali redeemed itself with a very productive birding day that added another 30 birds to my life list.

This tour started off in a bird hide (in the US also known as a bird blind) — a makeshift shelter in the middle of a coffee plantation to minimizes the impact of our presence on bird activity. Instead of walking around looking for birds, we sat quietly and let the birds come to us.

They can still see our faces, so I’m not sure how much we fooled them, but it worked well enough to get us some good pictures.
