At the Opera

Day 507: February 19, 2026 – Sydney, Australia

When in Sydney, it wouldn’t be right to miss out on the cultural symbol of Australia, the Sydney Opera House. Reflecting its maritime influence, the architecture has been variously described as resembling sails, shells, or great white sharks. It is one of the most photographed buildings in the world.

A large group of us attended several different shows. Mine was Hansel & Gretel—not exactly a story I would associate with opera, but an excellent production. Photography was not allowed once the show starts so this is the only pic I took inside the house.

I didn’t see a show there, but I did get a tour of an empty house, which actually facilitated observation of every element of the structure. It’s certainly a gem and I’m glad you had the joy of a live performance!

    1. It is definitely a gem.
