Day 264: June 19, 2025 – Catalina Island, California This one is especially for my pet-loving friends. No, I haven’t been assimilated into that group, I still prefer my animals in the wild. But this seemed like a quirky bit of Americana to explore. My first thought was, only in California, but upon further research it seems pet cemeteries are everywhere, I just had never seen one.

I’ve never had to pay an admission fee to a cemetery, but the La Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires is not your typical cemetery; it’s one of Argentina’s top attractions. Built like a miniature city, it has 4691 above-ground vaults and mausoleums, containing the remains of 19th century Argentinian leaders. Each vault has an intricate door or gate, expressing the style and interests of the family.
