Smitten with Singapore

Day 592-594: May 15-17, 2026 – Singapore

I was unexpectedly smitten with Singapore. I had been here once before, in 2004, but only briefly so had just a few memories of the place. This time its vibrancy and beauty were on full display. I am happy that our itinerary has us returning here several times over the next few months, allowing more time to explore this beautiful country.

This sculpture of boys jumping into a river was one of the few things I remember from my previous visit to Singapore. Called The First Generation, it captures a carefree moment of youth.

An iconic landmark in Singapore is Sands SkyPark. The boat-shaped platform rests on top of three 55-story skyscrapers.

These towering tree-like sculptures dominate the beautiful Gardens By the Bay complex. Each is a vertical garden fitted with technology that mimics the ecological functions of trees. I was there during the day but next time plan to come back at night when they are all lit up.

And of course spotting a few good birds is always a treat.

  1. Yes, they are extremely organized and thoughtful about their tourism process.

I recall Singapore very fondly too. On the way to visit you in India, I had a long layover there. They made it very easy to take a guided tour of the city while we were waiting for our flight. All the entry paperwork was done on location by airport staff. Very lovely city-state.
