Day 520: March 4, 2026 – Wellington, North Island, New Zealand
At the Zealandia Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellington, birds are free to roam, but predators and pests (mice, rats, possums, cats, weasels) are fenced out. The predator-free environment has resulted in Wellington being one of the few cities in the world where native bird populations are increasing.

The sanctuary is home to the Tuatara, an ancient reptile found only in New Zealand. It resembles a lizard but is NOT in the lizard family.
