Day 541: March 25, 2026 – Adelaide, Australia
Adelaide is a wonderful combination of historic architecture, beautiful parkland, and friendly locals. Here are a few moments from a day in Adelaide.
There are some magnificent libraries around the world, and Adelaide has one of them. The Mortlock Chamber of the State Library of Australia is an amazing example of Victorian architecture and is second on the list of most beautiful libraries in the world.

The Botanical Garden Palm House featured Dale Chihuly glasswork, which always catches my eye.

The park had hundreds of noisy Corellas (a type of Cockatoo).

The only thing noisier than the Corellas were the bats (flying foxes), hanging upside down on dozens of trees.

Here is what a hundred bats sounds like:

And the locals — well, what can I say. Meet Tiffany. I was standing in the train terminal staring at a ticket kiosk, trying to figure out how to get a MetroCard, when she approached me and asked if I needed help. Next thing I knew, she was scanning her own credit card on the screen and handing me a prepaid MetroCard. And refusing to take my cash for it. Aussies rock!
