Into the Outback

Day 544 (Month 18): March 28, 2026 – Adelaide, Australia

The combination of cyclone Norelle tearing up the coast of Australia and disruption of the fuel chain has presented challenges for our Australian itinerary. The captain has had to balance fuel usage with safety, leading to an altered route with several smaller ports being eliminated.

I decided to make lemonade and head inland into the Australian outback. Tomorrow I’ll be jumping on a flight from Adelaide to the famous Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock), an iconic Australian monolith with cultural significance for Aboriginal Australians, then rejoining the Odyssey in Perth a week later. I’m being naively optimistic that things may settle down a bit by then. At least the cyclone part.

Hi Basia, SO glad you are doing this. Very spiritual experience. I was lucky enough to climb it back then which was amazing, but even seeing and going around the base is incredible. The Cultural Centre there is very cool too. Enjoy. Hope you see some lifers.

  3. I went to the Pittsford No Kings this morning (Adam Bello was there); Henrietta this afternoon. Not that we’re likely to produce an exit from Iran. But we’ll hope it ends soon.

    1. Thank you for doing that, Judy! I was wishing I could be there also.

  4. All the best on your journey to the Outback!
